"Legend and poetry, a lovely name and a lofty altitude combine to encompass helvellyn in an aura of romance."
A.W Wainwright

The main north, south ridge of Helvellyn stretches from Threlkeld in the North to Ambleside in the South. This magnificent ridge crosses the centre of the Lake District.

This is a long demanding walk which in turn is rewarding in terms of challenging your skills with some serious ascents and super views in all directions out across Lakeland.

Let our professionally qualified mountain leaders take the strain and give you a great day out in the fells.

Seat Sandal (Optional)

The Lake District national park authority has two 'Fell top assessors' who ascend Helvellyn daily during the winter months of December to March.

Their job is to check the weather conditions at the summit and write a report containing information such as temperature, wind chill, wind speed, snow depth, and any dangers such as unstable snow/avalanche hazard and icy footpaths.

This report is put on the Weatherline, which is a Met Office mountain weather forecast and is available on the internet, by telephone and at local shops and tourist information centres.

From Dunmail Raise we will climb Raise Beck to Grisedale Tarn before ascending to the summit of Dollywaggon Pike and Nethermost Pike, following the ridge from here to the summit of Helvellyn.

The ridge continues North from Helvellyn with wonderful views over the surrounding countryside as we cross White Side and Raise to Sticks Pass where the path again climbs as we cross the Dodds, Stybarrow Dodd, Watson's Dodd and Great Dodd before descending over our final summit of the day Clough Head and dropping down onto the Old Coach Road and our path down to Threlkeld
.

Each participant will be required to bring suitable equipment for their chosen event, please see Equipment Required.
