"Climb if you will, but remember that courage and strength are naught without prudence, and that a momentary negligence may destroy the happiness of a lifetime. Do nothing in haste, look well to each step, and from the beginning think what may be the end."
Edward Whymper

Over this weekend we will tackle some of the highest mountains in Britain, including Ben Macdui (2nd Highest) and Braeriach (3rd highest), both days are longer walks over roough ground but they take in some of the most remote summits in Scotland.

The wonderful high plateaus make great walking with sppectacular views and the deep corries give wonderful excitement to the routes.

"Mountains are not fair or unfair, they are just dangerous."
Reinhold Messner

Ben Macdui & Cairn Gorm
From the car park at the Cairn Gorm Ski Centre we will climb to the south, climbing towards Miadan Creag an Leth-choin, this path gives us wonderful views of the northern corries, the amazing combe of Coire an t-Sneachda being the most famous and dramatic of these.

The long ridge of Miadan Creag an Leth-choin brings us up nonto the vast Cairngorm Plateau, with the deep ravine of the River Dee to our right we will climb to the summit of Ben Macdui.

From the summit of Ben Macdui we will head north, either over or skirting around Cairn Lochan, crossing the edge of the plateau, above the rim of the northern corries before the path brings us up to the summit of Cairn Gorm.

From Cairn Gorm an easy path then leads back down to the Ski Centre.

Braeriach
This wonderful route begins gently, there is quite a long walk in through the the forests, until we break from the trees as we aproach the Lairig Ghru above the Allt Druidh until the stream rises to join us ane we are able to cross, climbing easily on a newly built path climbing the Sron na Lairig ridge and giving excellent views down into Lairig Ghru and across towards Ben Macdui.

The from the summit of Sron na Lairig we cross a fine narrow ridge before climbing to the summit of Braeriach with it's wonderful panoramic views.

From the summit of Braeriach we will descend west, passing along the cliffs above Coire an Lochain before descending to Gleann Einich, a good track leads down the valley here and back into the forestland from this morning, the pines here are particularly old and make a good end to the walk as we return to our start point.
