Did the Yorkshire 3 Peak with LDW and I must say how well organised it was in challenging conditions. Guides were first class and really friendly. Same could be said for the group of fellow walkers. I would highly recommend using LDW for your next challenge. (Posted on 12/06/2019)
Tough, long but fun day hike Review by Julian
Overall Experience
This was my third hike with Lake District Walker and it was every bit as enjoyable as my previous treks. The guides, Phil and Richard, were very good and did a great job of keeping the group, of 20, together.

The hike began at the Pen-y-ghent cafe with a discussion about safety on the hike. It was also established if anyone had allergies that might need prompt attention along the way. Given the length of the hike, the guides identified bail out and cut off points along the way where the trip could be curtailed if things began to look like they weren't going to plan and continuing would endanger the group. There was a follow up talk from the local mountain rescue leader too.

At 0815, we began the hike out of Horton and up Pen-y-ghent, with no-one being rushed or lagging too far behind. By the time we reached the summit, the weather had closed in and the rain was there for the day. We pushed on to Ribblehead for lunch around 1215. After a break, we set off up Whernside, pausing only to take in a passing steam special, which brightened up the pouring rain no end, then continued up to the summit. The descent was slow due to the fact that the steep steps were quite slippery. We reached Philpin Campsite, and the weekend snack bar, slightly before the agreed cut off time of 1600. Several of the group decided they had had enough of the bad weather by this stage, and those who continued split into two groups, one fast and one slow, as we began the ascent of Ingleborough. We all reached the summit and headed down again for the final leg back to Horton. I think the faster group reached Horton just inside the 12 hours, though the slower group stayed together and got back in twelve and a half hours, at about 2045. Given the weather conditions, that was an achievement in itself, and a testament to both of the excellent guides who kept morale, and the pace, up. All in all a great fun day.

For those considering it, you should be aware of the various ways to hike it, to maximize what you will get out of the day. Firstly, you can do it solo or with a small group of people with similar levels of fitness, and competence for hiking such conditions, secondly, you can do it as a charity event with back up vehicles, or thirdly, you can hike it as a larger group, such as this trip. If you want to attempt a fast completion time, then you should probably be considering the first option, if you want an enjoyable walk with a chance to meet and chat with others and you aren't so bothered about the 12 hour time limit then the charity/large group hike maybe more to your tastes. As it turned out, the day I completed the walk (Sunday August 26), the Pen-y-ghent cafe wasn't clocking out hikers so it didn't count whether the circuit was completed within 12 hours or not. For those doing it as training for larger hikes, such as Kilimanjaro, then it is an excellent test, and taste, of what you can expect to face each day in terms of exertion without of course the altitude considerations. Anyone attempting a larger hike would do well to consider this hike to ensure their level of readiness before embarking. (Posted on 04/09/2018)

Would like to say a big thank you to Paul for getting us around the Yorkshire 3 Peaks. We were in a slower group than the rest but he kept going back and making sure everyone was doing okay. Was a late finish and the weather was not brilliant at all but still enjoyed it. We also managed to raise £300 for Marie Curie. Many thanks

I booked the Yorkshire 3 peaks challenge for myself and 4 others, after a terrible booking experience with another company.
I told the lady on the phone the issues I had and she gave me great reassurance about this company and the 15 years of experience. I was then given extra reassurance via email. This was great knowing already how much they care about their customers.
We started the challenge on the 7/7/18, with Neil leading and Robert keeping everyone at the back together.
The ladies in my group found this challenge difficult, but with the wonderful support and guidance from Neil they all completed it and well within the challenge time.
Neil went above and beyond with his support, his knowledge and compassion was phenomenal. I just couldn't thank him enough! The whole experience was wonderful from booking to completing.
A huge thank you to everyone involved and a special thank you to Neil. (Posted on 12/07/2018)

My son, partner and myself joined a walk led by James over the May bank holiday weekend. Our whole group completed the challenge within the time and all had a great day out. James was very good at keeping the whole group motivated with praise where deserved and pushing us on when needed. The summit of Whernside was extremely windy, we could barely kept upright, but he calmly led us safely across the ridge and back down the other side.
My partner is almost 60 and wouldn't have completed the challenge in less than 12hrs without James's help. A big thank you from the three of us. (Posted on 30/05/2018)

I just wanted to tell you what a great day we had yesterday. Both guides were friendly and helpful, but we split off into a faster group with James, and he was just brilliant. It was challenging going up some peaks with winds of up to 50mph, but we felt totally safe with James guiding us. He was forever counting heads and making sure everyone was OK. Really great guy! A fab day. Feeling a little stiff this morning. (Posted on 28/05/2018)

Me and my friend joined a group of 8. The walk is definitely challenging and strong legs are needed! Our guide Neil was brilliant. He ensured everyone completed up to their abilities and kept people safe. He was supportive and was interesting to chat to. I'd definitely recommend the company and plan to do more...once I've recovered from this! (Posted on 11/09/2017)

On 30th April, myself, sister and friend joined 3 others and our guide Neil on the Yorkshire 3 Peaks walk. We had a fantastic day without the pressure of navigating. Neil was professional, friendly and very encouraging when anyone needed extra support. We completed the challenge in 10 hours 25 minutes which was a nice comfortable pace. I would definitely choose the Lake District walker again in the future for a different challenge. Thank you Neil for such a successful and enjoyable experience. (Posted on 11/05/2017)
