What a Week!

Hi Matt and John – just a few lines to say how much we enjoyed our latest fell walking trips with you both. One of the key advantages of using The Lake District Walker is that we were able to make the maximum use of our limited time in the Lake District. In just a few days to have experienced the delights of the eight peaks of the Fairfield Horseshoe, then Pavey Ark, Harrisons Stickle and Pike O’Stickle above the stunning Langdale Valley, all of which was topped-off with a day on Bowfell and the Crinkles – it was pretty special! Whilst this was at times physically demanding, it is great to challenge and stretch ourselves when we are able to do so safely and under control as a result of the calm re-assurance and expertise that you bring. Oh and I even got one or two decent photographs as well! It was an excellent week and we look forward to getting out and about with you again soon.

Wanted to improve my navigational skills, so took the opportunity whilst here on holiday with the family. Many thanks to Matt, quickly assessed what I wanted to do and as I was the only one that day, I received individual attention. Wonderful day out with him and Tom, boosting my confidence and feeling very pleased at the end of the day. Many, many thanks.

Ghyll Scrambling

Excellent Navigation Skills course

I booked 2 days navigation course with Lake District Walker in November 2011. I was the only one on the course, so I had 2 days of personal tuition with Matt, who was excellent. When we met, he quickly established what my level of map skills were, then tailored the next 2 days around building my capability on estimating distance, navigating to contour lines (some pretty obscure), and simulating navigating in our conditions. He was patient, encouraging and explained things simply and clearly. He is a natural as a teacher, and I would recommend both Matt and the course to anyone looking to develop their navigation skills. Based in Elterwater, there was plenty of navigational features to work from, so an excellent base.
Thank you Matt - hopefully will not get lost this year - and if I do it's all my doing for not following your guidance!
