“A group of 8 of us did Striding edge and Helvellyn today guided by Alex. Can I just say that this is the first time I have been on a guided walk having done a lot of hiking in the past. I was extremely impressed by his knowledge and the care he took to make sure that everyone got down the difficult bits on the hike. He was very affable and made the day relaxed and go very smoothly. The whole day was very enjoyable and I wouldn't hestitate to use this company again. Highly recommended.”

“I would like to thank Tim, Hugh and all at Lake District Walkers for such a fantastic weekend. Tim and Hugh should both be commended for their nature ability to lead a group and both of them equally made our experience in the Lakes this weekend one that won't be forgotten anytime soon. It was 2 days of the best walking I have had the privilege to be a part of and I cannot thank everyone enough. I was genuinely sad for the walk to end on Sunday!”

“I just wanted to say thank you for making our climb on the 1st September a memorable day. The guide you provided was friendly, informative, good fun and very easy going with a pair of novices!! He even gave us a lift back to our hotel which was above and beyond and most gratefully appreciated!! Thanks again, Amy”

Amy Thomas

“Thanks John, for arranging the most amazing weekend of walking for our group of five. Tackling the high level route up Pillar was amazing and by far my biggest challenge yet but with your expert knowledge of both the route and the mountain, we were able to ascend to the summit safely and with confidence and then continue to bag a few more Wainwrights along the way. The following day's hike along the High Stile Ridge from Buttermere was beautiful and a great parter to the previous day's adventures. My Wainwright-ometer now reads 71! Can't wait to go walking again.”

Lucy Jordan

It was an exhilarating day for us and a day that we will never forget! Matt was first class, his decisions, based on the impending weather were spot on.he was very friendly, great with our daughters and made the hard walk very enjoyable.we had great weather until about a third of the way down then got hailstones and torrential rain lol. Here's to Ben Nevis with girls next year!”

“Many thanks to Matt for taking us up and down scafell despite him not feeling 100% . Thanks again Sue levy”

“Hi John Just thought I’d drop you a line to say how much we enjoyed the Helvellyn walk led by Tim on Sunday. Tim did a first class job leading us. I would have no hesitation recommending others to avail themselves of your services, especially for this walk! Regards Richard”

“Dear John and Lyanda Thank you both for the great organisation and guided walks up Scafell, Helvellyn and the Old Man of Coniston last week. The scenery was fantastic and John's guiding for the scrambling and navigation enabled me to achieve personal challenges that I wouldn't have had the confidence to do on my own. John's imparting his local knowledge of the hills, their history and their natural history made the walks all the more interesting. It gave me the confidence to tackle Catbells on my own on Saturday. Kind regards Helen”

Helen

“Completed above walk yesterday under the guidance of Ian and just wanted to say a big thank-you to him and your company for an unforgettable experience! Many thanks Cath”

Would recommend to anyone wanting to climb some mountains in a safe way and at a steady relaxed pace. Will definitely be booking further trips with LDW. Absolutely brill days out. Thanks to Matt and Ian - both a credit to your company.”

“We did 2 walks with LDW, one on the sunday to Wansfell Pike and then on the wednesday to Scafell Pike. Both John & Matt our guides were very professional and extremely knowledgeable on the surrounding area. Both guides mingled with everyone and we all had a great time. The £20 each was excellent value! The reassurance of having a professional guide put our minds at rest in an area we had never been before. Keep up the good work LDW. Michael & Tracy”

“Hi. George Howard here, just a small message of appreciation. I did the basic navigation day with Chris Anderson on the 13/04/12. Had a fantastic day, took a lot on board, loads of stuff to work with and hopefully reach a good standard of Navigation. I intend to see you in the not to distant future for the same, or possibly guided walks. Once again please convey my thanks to Chris he's a great guy and I hope i have the pleasure of walking the fells with him soon. Kind Regards George Howard”

George Howard

“Thanks to Tim for making a difficult walk manageable. He was an excellent leader.”

Christine Lucas

“Hi Matt and John, just a few lines to say how much we enjoyed our latest fell walking trips with you both. One of the key advantages of using The Lake District Walker is that we were able to make the maximum use of our limited time in the Lake District. In just a few days to have experienced the delights of the eight peaks of the Fairfield Horseshoe, then Pavey Ark, Harrisons Stickle and Pike O'Stickle above the stunning Langdale Valley, all of which was topped-off with a day on Bowfell and the Crinkles, it was pretty special! Whilst this was at times physically demanding, it is great to challenge and stretch ourselves when we are able to do so safely and under control as a result of the calm re-assurance and expertise that you bring. Oh and I even got one or two decent photographs as well! It was an excellent week and we look forward to getting out and about with you again soon. Terry & Carol Roddy”

Terry Roddy

“Big thanks to Alec & Claire for Scafell Pike walk on Saturday - an amazing day (even with Andy Wharton's broken boots!)”

Geraldine Ford

“Wanted to improve my navigational skills, so took the opportunity whilst here on holiday with the family. Many thanks to Matt, quickly assessed what I wanted to do and as I was the only one that day, I received individual attention. Wonderful day out with him and Tom, boosting my confidence and feeling very pleased at the end of the day. Many, many thanks.”

Christine Addison

“Thanks for a fabulous few days last week. We have all had a wonderful time and thoroughly enjoyed the outings we did with you. The kids keep talking about 'Ghyll Scrambling' to anyone who they see and are definitely keen to have another go. Cheers! Esther”

Esther Shelton

“I booked 2 days navigation course with Lake District Walker in November 2011. I was the only one on the course, so I had 2 days of personal tuition with Matt, who was excellent. When we met, he quickly established what my level of map skills were, then tailored the next 2 days around building my capability on estimating distance, navigating to contour lines (some pretty obscure), and simulating navigating in our conditions. He was patient, encouraging and explained things simply and clearly. He is a natural as a teacher, and I would recommend both Matt and the course to anyone looking to develop their navigation skills. Based in Elterwater, there was plenty of navigational features to work from, so an excellent base. Thank you Matt - hopefully will not get lost this year - and if I do it's all my doing for not following your guidance!”

Catherine Glickman

“Great day, great guides and great set of people. Thanks Matt and hope you got your pants clean!!!”

Jill Neil

“Many thanks for a fantastic weekend of walking across interesting terrain! Loved every minute. Fab photos on the blog - the kids thought they were great. Kind regards Charlie Groves”

“I'm just back from a few great days in the Lake District. Both Tom & I had a great time and wanted to say thank you for making the experience so memorable. I in particular want to say thank you for what was a fantastic day on Scafell Pike on Saturday. “Many thanks to Matt our guide for a great day on the hills. It wasn't easy, with bad visibility for most of the day but not only was his navigation spot on, but he even explained how to do it! Above Ennerdale is a good day out, a tough walk, but very rewarding and the views must be great, if the cloud lifts!”

Martin Greenshields

“Hi, I would like to thank John for guiding us on a wonderful walk yesterday. Kerry and I had a great time and I am particularly thankful that we were able to go at a pace we could manage. Thank you so much for a lovely day - and for laying on such fabulous weather. Many thanks, Tracey”

Can't wait to come back!”

“I would highly recommend this 2 day navigation course for anyone who knows nothing or very little about navigation (like I did), or anyone that needs their skills refreshing. Matt Burt is an excellent instructor who has so much skills, knowledge and patience. Two very enjoyable days. Thank you to all at The Lake District Walker.”

“Just back safely to Suffolk after a fantastic few days in The Lakes and caught up with your write up of our Striding Edge Adventure! It was absolutely brilliant, highlight of my stay and everything I'd hoped for (although would have loved a clear view while scrambling!) You were very patient and encouraging and I know for a fact every one of us loved it! Looking forward to the next time. Good luck to you all at TLDW for the rest of the season. Thanks again, Love from June x”

“Just a few words to thank Matt for a great day, his knowledge of the area and understanding of the weather conditions were excellent, which made for a windy but enjoyable day, i for one would recommend using TLDW any time and will book further walks to help with my training for Kili next year”

William John Donaghy

“Dear Sir/Madam, We have just returned from a week in the Lake District and on Wednesday 12th October we had booked for a guided walk (climb) up Scafell Pike. It was a very wet day and we arrived at the meet point 15 minutes early. Just after we arrived, our guide, a young man called Matt, arrived. We chatted while climbing into waterproofs and he told us that it was just the three of us today. We set off and had a really good walk up and back, although a bit wet! What we wanted to say was a big 'thank you' to Matt who was a very friendly and knowledgable lad and as we have three boys of a similar age, had a lot in common to talk about. He was interested in us and us in him. He gave us good advice on the landscape and warned us (well, me really) when things were steep/rough/difficult, etc., offering a helping hand when needed. We made good time up the mountain and enjoyed a different route down. The scenery, when this could be seen through the misty rain, was spectacular and Matt continually pointed out things of interest. We really, really enjoyed our day with Matt, so all due credit to him. In fact, if it hadn't been for him, we would have found it very difficult to get to the top and would probably still be there now as we would have had no idea where to start the descent!! The Lake District Walker will be recommended to all our friends and in our opinion was excellent value for money. So, thank you and also again to Matt, for what was the highlight of our week! Please pass on our best wishes to him and wish him good luck for his house move! Kind regards, Gill & Phil Voisey”

Gill & Phil Voisey

“Loved todays walk with Matt and also appreciated Matt giving information and history on our walk. Definetley will be walking again with Lake District Walker”

sharif hassan

“Climbed Scafell & Scafell Pike on 3rd October thanks to the huge support and encouragement from John. The weather was pretty awful but I am so glad I did it and hope to tackle it again next year, hopefully in better weather.”

Wendy Richardson

“With a long established fear of heights, to say that I was anxious about this event would be something of an understatement. However, for the 2nd time in just a few days, our walk under the care of John, our guide for the day, was nothing short of exceptional. Setting aside his excellent knowledge of the Lake District, his calm, confident manner and professionalism was a constant and re-assuring presence which meant that, despite a tough and sometimes difficult ascent of Striding Edge (not forgetting the descent via Swirral Edge!), I was able to enjoy every second. Thank-you John for a great day and for helping to make my husbands birthday such a special occasion.”

Carol Roddy

“What an amazing day we had with our guide for the day, John. Starting in Threlkeld, our route-up via Halls Fell Ridge was challenging and at times pretty demanding for a pair of experienced walkers but relative Lake District novices! In no time at all we were on Blencathra peak, surveying our goal - the drop-down to Scales Tarn and re-ascent of Blencathra Summit via Sharp Edge. The initial ascent prepared us well for what was a difficult and technically challenging climb across Sharp Edge. However, under John's expert guidance, a couple of relative "oldies" completed the climb successfully. Thank-you John for your care, for taking the time to highlight the many fells and landmarks throughout the day, and for what was an exhilarating experience - one that is certain to live long in our memories.”

Terry Roddy

“The weather wasn't brilliant but our guide, Neimh, was, judging the route and pace perfectly for us. At 72 years old, I would not have attempted this route unguided, but with Neimh's informative, calm and attentive guidance we felt safe and able to enjoy an exhilarating walk to the full. Thank you for a wonderful day on the fells.”

sylvia Tunstall

“May I take this opportunity to thank LDW and particularly Alex for an excellent two days of Navigation training based at Elterwater. The location of Elterwater gave great access to the fells each side of the Great Langdale Valley, which were fully utilised, due to the landscape, varied terrain and unique features. The professionalism, manners and communication skills of Alex are a credit to him self and the company he represented. The age difference (40yrs) was never a problem we 'hit it off' from our initial introduction. Throughout the two days the general conversations were light hearted which made the days fun(which from my point of view was essential). However, the main point of the exercise 'NAVIGATION TRAINING' Alex knowledge, the ability to put it across and attention to detail was evidence of a young man heading to the top of his profession. The amount of knowledge and information he passed on to me was tremendous, this resulted in me learning new skills. Alex approach to fulfilling the criteria laid down by NNAS (Silver award) was exemplary. The one question I wanted to answering prior to the training was ' What do you do when there is a complete white out and 10metres of visibility and you are lost? This question was answered in great detail and will stick in my mind for ever. John, I won't tell you the explanation he gave me ( you will have to attend the training !!!!!) , but the outcome is I will feel a lot more self-confident when walking in the future. To sum up my last two days on the fells: a) Great Location b) Outstanding Mountain Leader c) How important it is to have an in depth knowledge of navigation d) Good value for money”

Jim Wheeler

“Thank you to our guide Chris who turned what we hoped would be a super day into a superb experience. He was faultless, brimming with enthusiasm, confident and truly professional. We all had such a great day that we will fondly remember for ages to come. Thank you till the next time.”

liz seymour

“1st September 2011 This is the first time I have used "The Lake District Walker" and was very impressed. Our aim was Scafell Pike, and Scafell. One of our group (Jim!) wanted to do an 'optional extra' Lingmell. This turned out to be a great idea. Our guide Matt was excellent, patient and knowledgeable. The dynamics of the group were such that even the steepest climbs went (relatively!) quickly. We were very lucky with the weather which made the day, especially with the fantastic views the Lakes have to offer. Thanks again for a great day”

Michael Bedford

“Dear John & Lyanda, Just a note to say a huge thank you for playing a large part in helping us have another great holiday in the Lake District. As always we felt completely safe walking the fells with yourself or the other guides who led us, namely Bryan & Alex, both of whom did a great job. We think that one of the main strengths of your company is the way your guides and yourselves interact with people. We are definitely not athletic types and yet your patience and encouragement have enabled us to achieve way beyond what we could do alone. As I sit here, back at my desk, it is easy to think about how lucky you are working outside all day but I know that many hours of preparation go unseen. We're already booked to see you again in November and are looking forward to the Borrowdale Weekend. All the best & many thanks again.”

Lucy and Stephen Jordan

“Hi I just wanted to say thank you to Brian for a god day out at Scafell Pike on 14 August. Although my friend and I had already walked Ben Nevis I think we both found Scafell Pike much more of a challenge. I freaked out at one point and Brian calmly helped me get down. Both my friend and I complained after Ben Nevis when we found the guide lacking all round. I wanted this time to say that Brian was very knowledgeable of the area and kept us informed of where we were and where we were going and what sights we were seeing. Thank you again.”

Jatinder Hopson

“Hi Lyanda, We had a great time on Saturday so thanks very much for lending us John! He was informative, caring and interesting but never invasive. His recommendation about the Kirkstile was also bang on; I tried the golden ale and the porter and both were stunning. When we come up again we'll definitely call you to arrange a walk that tests and inspires us even more. Take care of all of you. Hugs to you and John and of course Amelia.”

Derek, Rhiannon and Anz

“Thank you for being such good company and being very knowledgeable on the assent of Scafell Pike, i really enjoyed it, it made my weekend , knowing that i had now climbed the 3 peaks, weren't we lucky with the weather”

Alan

“I recently went up Scafell Pike, guided by John and can't recommend him highly enough; he gave complete confidence, was professional , friendly and very knowledgeable.Would definitely use again !”

Lindsay Vale

“Anyway just want to say Thank you so much for the weekend I cant tell you how much I enjoyed the two walks and Glencoe was just magical to me and is something I will remember for the rest of my life !”

Dave

“Just a short note to let you know that the guided walk was very much enjoyed by the party and many thanks to Alex the guide for his professionalism and knowledge of Scafell Pike.”

Claire Helm

“Just returned from what has to be one of the best days ever. Despite the wind and rain it was a wonderful day and the sun did come out eventually. The views when it did were glorious, when I looked back over Striding Edge and knew I had done that, I was overjoyed and so proud! John the guide was helpful and knowlegable. He made you feel safe and confident. Can't praise the trip enough.”

Wendy Richardson

“Fantastic weekend doing the three peaks challenge! The group were brilliant, really lovelly people. I would definitely recommend it..well I would not have said that on the Sunday night but by Tuesday I was ready to do it all over again! John was exellent as our guide and the whole group were brilliant fun and smiled through the awful weather we had all weekend. Claire our driver was amazing very motivational and just a lovelly person! Thanks to everyone”

Linda Atrill

“Just a quick line to say many thanks for a wonderful if wet and exhausting day. Paul was a great guide for us and even stood on the edge to protect us on the slippery rock on the Shamrock Traverse. We were so tired at the end he even let us off the climb up Yewbarrow. Many thanks - a great day. Andy”

Andrew Nicholls

“Never been on a guided walk before but can thoroughly recommend Paul who took 9 of us up Hellvelyn on 4th May. All ages and abilities,I was really impressed how he ensured we had a great day and enabled us all to achieve it.Help on tap just whenever you needed it- he was brilliant. Would definately book him again”

tina cook

“Just to pass on our sincere thanks to Paul who was a brilliant guide for the day when we did Helvellyn via Striding Edge last Wednesday. Conditions were suberb and the sun was shining couldn't have been better. Bonus of Catstycam on way down after Swirral Edge was worth the extra haul. My 12 year old led the way and loved it and was a personal achievement for me as I'm not too clever with heights. A stunning day. Thanks Mandy & Nathan”

Mandy & Nathan

“Dear John Firstly congratulations of the birth of your baby. What a joy they are! Secondly, I wanted to say a huge thank you and congratulations on the first class walk leaders you employ. Alex on the Friday walk from Buttermere was superb, very patience, understanding and a really lovely young man. My walk up Helvellyn with Claire on Sunday was magical. I almost bottled out at Striding Edge, even though I so wanted to do it. Claire encouraged me and with her support and kindness I made it! I couldn't have done it without her, what a kind, accomplished young woman she is. So again, thank you for making my weekend walking extraordinarily wonderful.”

Diana Blake

“Following the AGM & Members' Gathering in Cumbria over the weekend of the 4th and 5th of June, we would like to extend our thanks to the Lake District Walker for providing Helvellyn Walks. Please pass on our thanks to Ian Almond, Bryan Wakeley and Christopher Anderson for leading the walks. This years gathering was a great success for the Trust and we hope you enjoyed your role in it. The event would not have been possible without so much support from local organisations and all the enthusiasm for the trust and the John Muir Award in the area. We all really enjoyed spending time in Cumbria's stunning landscape over the course of the weekend and it was wonderful to find out more about the people and the organisations looking after it. Once again, many thanks on behalf of the John Muir Trust.”

Maggie Briggs

“Hi John, Just a quick note to say how wonderful of a hike High Raise was. (I keep wanting to call it Hair Raise…lol). Chris was a great guide, making sure we were all having an enjoyable time and staying safe as well. Next visit, I shall try Helvellyn & Striding Edge!”

“I would just like to let u know how much I thoroughly enjoyed my walk up The High Street last Friday. Even though we were a small group of 4 it was tremendous. Our guide Alex was superb, what a wonderful, patient ,accomodatin, knowledgeable young man u have in your team, a true kind gent and a great accent. Even though it rained and we couldn't get a view ,it didn't dampen our day, especially Marion who was celebrating her 65th birthday. We will certainly return for another of wainwrights greats.”

Deb n ang

“We have just walked Scaffell Pike, with Bryan, and we would like to say thanks for making the trip just that bit more special. We would certainly use you again and will recommend you to our friends.”

Gwyn Gunner

“Hi there, I recently completed Scafell Pike with your company on Sunday 6th March and thoroughly enjoyed the walk. The weather was great and our guide was really good, knew his stuff and let the group go at their own pace. Following on from this great experience I thought I would do Snowdon. I booked with one company who have just let me down by cancelling with no reason and another company I tried to book with said they aren't doing any walks in April despite 3 being advertised on their website. This palaver has made me realise what an efficient company you run and how well organised everything was. From the website, to the booking form, to the instructions for the day, it was all so easy and that made my life so much easier (especially as I live in Norwich so was coming quite a way!) I recommended that the 2 companies above took a leaf out of your book and learnt a thing or two from your customer service. Once again, Thank you very much. I will definitely be using your company in the future.”

Leanne Miller

“Hi John and Lyanda, Thank you so much for such a wonderful day up Scafell Pike on 26th Feb 2011! The pair of you did so much more than what might have been expected! So good to be in such safe hands, and John's knowledge of the geography and social history of the area added so much the occasion. We will be recommending you to everyone we know! Thanks again, Kev, Elaine & Lewie :-)”

Elaine Clarke

“just like to say thank you for an excellent experience today-iam back to work on monday and will be discussing with colleuges the positives of having a guided walk with you as it is safe, fun and well worth the money- again thank you for today”

“Dear LDW: Just a note from Miami to say: "You are the best!" Our personalized tour up and down Sca Fell was a HIGHLIGHT OF OUR VACATION. We were there in July and "we're still on top of the world". Thanks for the attentive, gentle, prepared, and friendly service. If we ever get back to the Lake District again, LDW will be our guides.”

James, Joyce, Andrew, and Betty Alice McGhee, Miami, FL, USA

“Many many thanks to John for being so patient with me in teaching me to navigate my way in the fells. I cant believe that in the whole day I didnt get completely lost! I can now read a map, use a compass, and get down off the mountain in an emergency which is incrediable so a big thankyou!! Sally”

Sally Wharton

“Thanks for a very enjoyable and informative day last Tuesday. I'm thinking of coming back to Keswick in February for a week and to sign up for several of your organised walks”

“Thankyou John for a fantastic day on Saturday the 27th of November.I envisaged Striding Edge would be an exiting walk but when John issued us with ice axes and crampons it took on a new perspective! With Johns clear and precise instructions on the use of the issued equipment we set off for the walk feeling a little apprehensive about what was ahead. All across Striding Edge we felt safe with John and his knowledge and expertise was very apparent. Thanks Don and Matt”

Don Webb

“Hi, You might not remember me but I took a walk with you guys just before the Easter break. I never got round to sending my pictures as I've been so busy (typical Londoner) anyway, I just wanted to say a small thank you for what was one of the most memorable walks in my life! No, seriously! Your friendlyness and warm nature really made me feel comfortable and relaxed. Perhaps, one day, maybe during Christmas, I'll get round to sending my pictures. Anyway, have a Happy Christmas and congratulations on the baby.”

“My son Robbie, his friend Toby and I had a great day on Saturday at Scafell Pike and Scafell - we were so pleased to complete it after the poor weather that prevented us in July. Paul was an excellent guide, very helpful to all and set a good pace. He also made us realise that we will need to train well for next year's 3 Peaks in July, so we'll be back in touch about training weekends etc. Thanks again for accommodating our requests. Kind rgds”

“I would just like to say thank-you for a really super day yesterday! Scafell pike walk was great. It was fantastic to relax and just enjoy the views. The group we joined were really smashing and John our guide was very chilled out. I would definitely use your company again and recommend it to friends. Thanks for making Evans birthday a really special day!”

“Hi Lyanda, Just a quickie to say thank you so much for Saturday. Both Teresa and I, had a wonderful time and it was really something to get to the top of Scafell Pike. The views coming down were fantastic. As you know we are planning on walking Ben Nevis on Saturday 11th September and I wondered if you could recommend anyone to guide us on this walk? I am sure John told you, I am very nervous about the descent so I would be looking for someone as patient as John - although I am not sure that there could be anyone as patient and encouraging! Once again thank you for a wonderful day on Saturday.”

Sarah

“Hi Lyanda, Just wanted to drop you an email to say what a fantastic time we all had on our Scafell Pike climb on 15th August! The weather was beautiful and the views over Wastwater were breathtaking. Bryan our guide was really great - such a nice person and we all appreciated his expertise, which allowed us to have a go at scrambling (definitely one of the highlights of the whole week!) and take a more unusual route down, which was fantastic. Also, I wanted to thank you so much for all your time and advice beforehand. I'm not sure whether I'd have gone ahead with the week had it not been for your help and reassurance, and I am SO glad I did! You were right about doing Ben Nevis first - we all felt a huge sense of achievement without feeling totally exhausted. (Having been teased by the others for being the shortest it was pretty cool to be the tallest thing in the UK when standing on the pillar on the summit of Ben Nevis! :D). Snowdon was the only peak we had bad weather for, but as it was the last and easiest one we didn't mind at all - at least the waterproofs got some use! All in all, all of the group had a brilliant week, and I for one can't wait to do something similar again soon. It's great to have done something challenging and really memorable in the Summer holidays and I feel quite proud!! I'll definitely recommend the Lake District Walker to others: the Lake District really is a beautiful region and we certainly got a lot more out of the day by having a guide. Maybe next summer (after a lot of training!!) we'll try for 24 hours! P.S. Please pass on our thanks to Bryan!”

Sarah Baughan

“Just wanted to drop you a line and say thank you to all concerned at The Lake District Walker for the excellent day we had on Saturday. There were 15 of us in total and we all managed to complete our challenge (and just inside the 7 hours) without any mishaps. Brian and Paul were excellent guides and we estimate that we have raised approximately 2500 pounds for our charity, so again thank you.”

Tina Penn

“Saturday was great thanks, really enjoyable and would definitely do a guided walk again. Claire was really great company.”

Melanie

“Hello John and Lyanda, Just a quick email to say thank you for the weekend's walking - Rob and I both had a great time!”

Lucy

“Hi John & Lyanda, Thought I'd mail to say a slightly belated thanks for my guided day to the summit of Helvellyn on 15th March. Considering the conditions it was good to have the backup of an experienced guide.”

Andy

“Just wanted to say thanks for a great days walking. The route was amazing. Your knowledge of the area made it even more interesting. I'd also like to say thanks for all the advice you gave me throughout the day. I would gladly recommend your service to anybody wanting an enjoyable day out in the Lake District.”

Martin

“Just wanted to say a big thanks once again from all of us, we had a fantastic weekend with brilliant walking. Coming back to office work is very depressing, I'm very envious of you!! Hope to see you again soon for that trip up Scafell.”

Abi

“Many thanks for a fantastic day on Tuesday, it was everything I'd hoped for & more.”

Brian

“Thought you may like to know that we made base camp on schedule without any problems associated with fitness, blisters etc. This was due to our training of which you were an important part.”

Peter

“Hi John, Remember us.......? You took the Family up Scafell Pike over the autumn half term. Apologies for not getting back to you sooner, but thanks for your expertise in getting us all [including the addition to the party who tagged on] up, we wouldn't have managed without you. We all thoroughly enjoyed the walk/climb even though it was not the best of conditions.”

Will

“Many thanks for the really enjoyable walk up Haystacks despite the poor weather, and we look forward to seeing your schedule for 2010 on the net...”

Pauline and Brian

“I wanted to say a massive thank you for yesterday - i had a great time. I loved every minute of the day and it has made me realise that there is more to the Lake District than my usual walks - i cannot wait to experience the higher fells / mountains on more of your guided walks.”

Sarah

“I recently went on the walks to Helvellyn and Scafell Pike , and found them to be very well organized and thoroughly enjoyable . Since the Groups are restricted to eight , it allows time and space for all ; On the descent from Scafell Pike , I developed an unexpected problem with my legs . A potentially hazardous situation was immediately diffused by John , our guide for the day. He quickly organized for the majority of the Group to be safely escorted back , whilst then giving his undivided attention to supporting me back to base. His quiet confidence and obvious experience were of the greatest encouragement , and I was patiently guided back to base after several extra hours . The mark of a sound organization is truly highlighted when things go wrong , and the professionalism and kindness of your Guide will never be forgotten. I certainly intend to go on more of the walks when I have recovered , and needless to say I highly commend the Lake District Walker to all !”

Mike Thompson

“Still recovering from the wedding proposal and the fact that I actually conquered my fear of heights and did the Striding Edge scramble. Can't wait to come back to the Lake District - Scafell Pike - Here I come!!”

Lorna

“ Hi Just wanted to say how much we enjoyed and how useful we found the Beginners Navigation Course with Geoff which we went on last Tuesday 26th March. Having pre booked the day, we had to go despite the weather conditions. However once there we both felt it was probably the best conditions in which to test our navigation skills and my husband called it a “baptism of fire”. It was a bit daunting to see all that snow and not a path in sight. There were 4 of us in the group. I am ok with a map and my husband has done compass work before but as I outlined to Geoff I am losing my confidence in navigating and get a bit panicky that we might get lost even though we have been walking in the Lake District for the last 30 years. Geoff was very patient with us all as a group, offering expert tuition in a friendly but professional manner which we have since put into practice during the rest of our holiday in the Lakes. As a result of this day we will however be buying a new map as our map is quite old, the scale being 1 inch to 1 mile !!!. Thank you. Susan and John Leigh ”

Susan and John Leigh

“Our guide Geoff was brilliant, I don’t really think any of us (the slower group) would have made it through 2 had he not been there. He stayed with the slowest, didn't get annoyed at how slow and whiny we were and had a laugh with us. Really supportive, nice people.”

Charlotte

“My partner and I did one of your basic navigational skills courses on Friday 5 April with Chris. I wanted to say how much we enjoyed it and how excellent Chris was. He was always very clear in his explanations and patient in dealing with our inadequacies! Also, very personable throughout. We also liked that he asked for constructive feedback at the end and was genuinely interested in this rather than just "going through the motions". We would definitely recommend your course to others.”

Karen

“We had a great walk on Sunday. But we did not thank Jeff afterwards at the end, so could you thank him for us, thanking him for his company and patience. Also thanks for meeting us at the end with some wine great touch. Kelly, Ainsley & Warren”

Warren

“Hi Lyanda, Just a brief email to say thanks to Jeff for Saturdays walk over Helvellyn. Great fun despite the weather. Simon.”

Simon

“Hello, I'd just like to say how enjoyable and well organised the Scafell Pike walk was on Wednesday. Having booked this guided walk through the Keswick Mountain Festival I was very impressed with the LDW's detailed communication before the walk and then the quality of leadership by Tim on the day. I hope to return to the Lake District in the future and would certainly book another guided walk with the LDW - a first-class operation! All the best Alison”

Alison

“Hi John, once again I would like to thank you very much for your much appreciated guided walks and fantastic hospitality. It was a wonderful experience. I've told all my friends and family about the great time I had with you on the walks and I really hope I will see you again next year with the Lake District Walker, maybe even this year again. I had the time of my life for 3,5 weeks and,for a large part, you made it all a time to remember for a long time. Please give my regards to Geoff and Chris as well, they are very nice guys who took their time and patience to tell us all we wanted to know and were very hospitable. They are a great credit to the Lake District Walker and I will recommend you all as much as I can to anybody here in Holland who wants to have the same experience in Cumbria as me. Once again thanks for a marvellous time Harry”

Harry

“Just wanted to thank you very much for your help with our above challenge. Paul was a fantastic guide and it was a pleasure for him to be with our group. Kind regards Jo”

Jo

“Hi 'Lake District Walker' Team I just wanted to say thank you for letting me postpone the Scafell Pike walk to this year. We did the walk on Saturday 18th May and despite the rain (lots of that!) and that I fell in a bog (very funny!) it was a great day and I really enjoyed it, so thank you! Our guide was also really friendly so please pass on my thanks to him. Thanks again, Claire”

“#Lakeland77 wouldn't have been achieved without knowledge, support and expertise of @theldwalker. Highly recommended for walking/activites!”

Andy

“The Crinkles, Thursday 6 June with Alex. A superb day out. Alex is to be highly commended on his knowledge, his caring attitude and his confidence-inspiring ability in all aspects of guiding. He made sure that we got the most out of our day whilst ensuring that no one individual was beyond their ability. As well as The Crinkles themselves, we took in Cold Pike and then had enough time (and energy!) to summit the mighty Bow Fell. Awesome views, when the mist allowed! Will certainly use The Lake District Walker (and hopefully Alex) again for both Fairfield Horseshoe and Striding Edge/Helvellyn. Many thanks, Steve”

Steve

“Hi Lake District Walker. Just to say thankyou for a great day on 1st June 2013 - climbed Scafell Pike with 6 others led by Jeff. As you state in your Blog, it was my birthday which was a "birthday present" from my eldest son. It was a brill walk, the weather was good and we got good views all round. Thank you again and see you again soon. Regards Ian”

Ian

“A huge thank you to Alex who led and encouraged us to complete the beautiful Yorkshire 3 Peaks on Saturday 8th June. The weather was boiling hot, we had great views and Alex kept us motivated all the way round. I still can't quite believe that I completed it at all, let alone in 10 hours 4 minutes. I'd certainly encourage anyone who may be thinking about completing this challenge but who isn't sure, to join a guided group and give it a go. Yes, I trained but I'd say that it was the support given by Alex that made what could have been a real chore into an absolute pleasure.”

Lucy

“Just wanted to day thanks for the last two days, I got loads out of it and will be heading off into the mountains with confidence! I'm recommending it to anyone who can't take a bearing.... Will let you know if I make it round the Old Crown Round. Cheers, Heidi”
