Navigation courses are now available throughout the year, either as a one or two day course. � If you've done some fellwalking but don't feel confident navigating or you haven't navigated at all, this course based� in the Lake District will give you plenty of practice and a great start.
We can start at whatever level of skills you have, be it starting from the beginning or honing a few skills to improve your confidence.
You'll spend either one or two days in the fells learning and practising a variety of navigation skills, including; reading the map, map orientation and interpretation, compass use, navigation techniques, following a bearing, navigation strategies and more.
This will give you the knowledge and confidence to navigate your own walks into the hills. The course is run in a relaxed style to maximise your learning and enjoyment and you'll have plenty of opportunity to practice.
Some of the areas covered in the course:
- Maps; different types, scales and symbols
- Grid References, how we give them and how they are used
- Taking and following compass bearings
- Reading the map
- Relating the ground around you to the map
- Using a variety of techniques and strategies to get from A to B
- What to do when you get lost�
We can also cover more advanced techniques, including night navigation upon request!
