The Bannerdale Fells
A grey day today on the Bannerdale Fells from Mungrisedale.
We set off from Mungrisedale at 10am and climbed from Bannerdale up the side of The Tongue to the summit of Bowscale Fell, by now we were in thick cloud and in persistent rain, there was plenty of water running off the fells today as well and the section crossing to the Bannerdale Crags was very wet underfoot.
As we stood on the summit of the Bannerdale Crags the clouds parted giving us some good views down into Bannerdale and to the surrounding crags.
From the Bannerdale Crags we descended south over White Horse Bent to the footbridge climbing again onto the southern end of Souther Fell, following the ridge to the summit before descending the northern end back into Mungrisedale.

Wind Chill
The wind on the fells can have a major impact on air temperature, and should not be underestimated, below is a chart showing just how much of a difference the wind speeds can make. Wind speeds also increase with altitude, the speed on the top of the fell can easily be double that at sea level.
