A dry, bright day today climbing Helvellyn and Striding Edge, taking in the tops of Birkhouse Moor and Catstycam along the way.
From Glenridding we took the path up towards Lanty's Tarn, in comparison to last weeks walk the Tarn and the surrounding area had dried up considerably, thanks to the sunny spells over the Easter week. We turned to the right behind the trees and followed the wall up along the ridge line heading for Helvellyn and Striding Edge.
Following the grassy path up the ridge, we soon joined the Mires Beck path, we followed the path up towards Birkhouse Moor, with the views across Ullswater and the eastern fells all free from cloud.
We were all keen to press on towards Striding Edge and Helvellyn, following the wall west to the 'Hole in the Wall' and then following the ridge.
Upon reaching the Start of Stridding Edge we took a minute or two to take in the view of St. Sunday Crag and Fairfield and scrambled along the ridge, taking careful step to reach the shelter of Helvellyn where we regained our energy eating our lunch.
After lunch we descended onto Swirral Edge ridge with the warm sun behind us, creating some great cloud shadows, scrambling down the rocky ridge didn't take too long and we were soon at junction of the path. After a quick drink we climbed towards the summit of Catstycam.
After some spectacular views from Catstycam we walked down the ridge towards Glenridding Beck and followed the track down towards Greenside Mines, crossing the bridge and following the track down through the mine buildings back towards Glenridding.
