High Crag

High Crag

Grid Reference: NY 18060 14017
Height: 744 metres/2441 feet

"The scenery being of the highest order and the situation exciting."
A Wainwright

High Crag lies at the eastern end of the high ridge which is topped by the summit of High Stile, from here the ridge descends east crossing the subsidiary summit of Seat and Scarth Gap Pass before climbing to the rocky summit of Haystacks.

High Crag presents steep faces in all directions except the western ridge leading to High Stile, but these steep faces have two lines of ascent, from the east a good path climbs the steep Gamlin End climbing from Scarth Gap. To the south of the summit a rough path climbs through Burtness Comb climbing Sheepbone Rake, a scree covered ledge on Sheepbone Buttress climbing the northern spur of High Crag.

There is a fine view from the summit of High Crag, with Pillar, Great Gable and the Scafells all in good view.
