Scafell Pike, Almost 17th April 2013

Scafell Pike from Seathwaite almost. With deteriorating weather ,we didn't reach the summit. Despite the harsh conditions,  good humour and pleasant company made a enjoyable outing for all.

We started our climb of Scafell Pike from Seathwaite Farm and followed the main path up towards Stockley Bridge, Grains Gill was flowing fast and white, with all the recent snow melt and rainfall.

The wind was gusting well and having a dramatic effect on Taylorgill Force Waterfall. The clouds were hugging the looming fells around us such as  Base Brown and Glaramara.

As we started our ascent up around Greenhow Knotts. Winds were evermore persistent and accompanied by rain making walking difficult, we continued on, crossing the Footbridge over Styhead Gill  and made our way along the path below Green Gable and Windy Gap. Styhead Tarn appeared kicking up a good bit of spray.

We Reached the Strecher Box at Sty Head and grabbed some shelter by the Boulders. The cloud was just hovering above the Corridor route. Scafell Pike and Lingmell were absent from view.

The conditions were worsening, gusts getting stronger and visually pushing through. The decision was made that today was not going to be getting any better the higher we went especially walking into the head wind. So we turned tail and proceed back to Seathwaite.

Despite the harsh conditions, good humour and pleasant company made a enjoyable outing for all. Scafell Pike will still be there another day, hopefully in more favourable conditions.
