Scafell Pike from Seathwaite

A wonderful day climbing Scafell Pike today, this time the conditions were much better underfoot than they were earlier in the week and we made it up to the summit of Scafell Pike.

We set off from Seathwaite Farm at 9am and followed the track by Stockley Bridge climbing above Taylorgill Force and above the 1000ft mark in reasonable time and were soon on the path alongside Sty Head Gill climbing towards the Stretcher Box.

As we turned the bend  we got a great view up towards the summit of Scafell Pike and Lingmell looking over Sty Head Pass.

We were soon up at the pass and heading across onto the Corridor Route crossing Skew Gill and climbing again. The section of path that beat us on Wednesday was now nice and firm and we crossed it with little trouble and were soon climbing up towards Lingmel Col and then onto the final climb towards the summit of Scafell Pike.

There were good views over the coast and to the Isle of Man as well as north over the Solway towards Scotland.

There was a slight breeze on the summit today and after a few photographs we dropped down behind some rocks to eat our lunches with the view across Mickledore to Scafell, thick with snow on this side.

After lunch we headed off descending to Broad Crag Col and climbing over Broad Crag and Ill Crag to descend through Calf Cove onto Esk Hause.

We cut a direct line down from Esk Hause ignoring the paths that were deep under snow and headed straight down onto the old drove road following the ridge down to meet the Grains Gill path back to Seathwaite.

A glorious day on Scafell Pike with some really clear views from the summit, on of the best days I've had there for a few months!
