Scafell Pike from Seathwaite

We left Seathwaite at 10 am looking forward to a great days walking up Scafell Pike.

With the weather looking moody we began the walk to Styhead Tarn crossing Stockley Bridge and on to the rescue box at Sty Head. From here the cloud began to lift and we got glimpses of Great Gable and the flanks of Scafell Pike.

We set off along the corridor route crossing small streams and the occasional small patch of snow until reaching Lingmell Col and the ascent to Scafell Pike.

After the short summit slopes we gained the top just as the sun was trying to shine through and were treated to views over Broad Crag and Ill Crag. We stopped on top for a spot of lunch in one of the many wind shelters.

From Scafell Pike we continued on over Broad Crag and the side of Ill Crag to the cross shelter just below Great End, here we split and whilst some people waited at the shelter the rest walked up to the summit of Great End which was totally shrouded in cloud.

From the shelter we continued down to Esk Hause enjoying views over Esk Pike, Allen Crags, Glaramara, The Langdale fells and Sprinkling Tarn. Upon reaching the head of Ruddy Gill we turned to descend back down to Stockley Bridge and a view over Derwentwater and the Northern Fells.

A Great day for Scafell Pike with amazing views through most of the walk.
