Scafell Pike from Wasdale Head

A good day climbing Scafell Pike from Wasdale Head today, the weather soon cleared up during the morning giving us some great views as we descended later in the day.

We set off from Wasdale Head a little after 10am in quite heavy rain and headed up over Lingmell Breast to Lingmell Gill crossing the gill and taking the Brown Tongue path up towards Hollow Stones, below Scafell Pike.

As we climbed towards Hollow Stones the rain soon eased and the wind wasn't too bad, at least not as bad as we had expected today.

We were up at Hollow Stones in good time and soon up onto Lingmell Col climbing the final path up to the summit of Scafell Pike.

We were now in the cloud so there was very little point in stopping to admire the views but we did stop for a while at the summit of Scafell Pike to eat our sandwiches.

We were soon off again and descending back towards Lingmell Col, taking the direct path down by Lingmell Gill onto Brown Tongue and descending to the stream crossing.

As we descended from Lingmell Coll the cloud lifted and we were rewarded with some wonderful views over the Wasdale Fells and west over Wastwater and to the Irish Sea.

By the time we were down at the stream crossing we were in bright sunshine taking the path back across Lingmell Breast and down into the Wasdale Valley crossing the bridge and down onto the roadside and back to the Wasdale Head Inn.

A surprisingly good day climbing Scafell Pike from Wasdale, we had not expected to see much today but the descent back to Wasdale was wonderful.
