Navigation Training
Navigation courses are now available throughout the year, either as a one or two day course.
If you've done some fell walking but don't feel confident navigating or you haven't navigated at all, this course based in the Lake District will give you plenty of practice and a great start.
We can start at whatever level of skills you have, be it starting from the beginning, honing a few skills to improve your confidence, practice for an award such as the D of E or get an advantage before your training for the Armed Forces.
You'll spend either one or two days in the fells learning and practising a variety of navigation skills, including; reading the map, map orientation and interpretation, compass use, navigation techniques, following a bearing, navigation strategies and more.
This will give you the knowledge and confidence to navigate your own walks into the hills. The course is run in a relaxed style to maximise your learning and enjoyment and you'll have plenty of opportunity to practice.
• Maps; different types, scales and symbols
• Grid References, how we give them and how they are used
• Taking and following compass bearings
• Reading the map
• Relating the ground around you to the map
• Using a variety of techniques and strategies to get from A to B
