The Route:
From Grasmere village we will follow the back roads to Greenburn where we will climb the long and gentle southern shoulder of Steel Fell, from the summit we will have views south over Helm Crag and Grasmere and to the north over Thirlmere.
We will continue from Steel fell, following the ridge west to the summit of Calf Crag, a quiet summit overlooking the Greenburn Valley. The ridge south from Calf Crag brings us over Gibson Knott to the wonderful summit of Helm Crag with is't rock 'Howitzer' summit where any of the group will be able to climb to the true summit.
A short descent brings us down to the Easdale Valley and a short walk back into Grasmere.

Directions:
From Ambleside / Windermere / Grasmere – Follow the A591 north from Grasmere passing the Swan Hotel and the Travellers Rest Inn, a short distance after the in, after some bends in the road a layby will be seen to the right, we will meet here.
From Keswick – Follow the A591 south from Keswick, signposted to Ambleside and Windermere. Follow this road past Thirlmere and over the pass of Dunmail Raise, as the road descends from the pass towards Grasmere a layby will be seen to the left, we will meet here.
