Scafell Pike
A good days walk over Scafell Pike from Seathwaite, climbing via Sty Head and the Corridor Route to Lingmell Col and the summit we had occasional views but from the summit and back along to Esk Hause and down the Grains Gill path we had extensive views all around. There was still some snow along the higher tops too!

5th February 2009
Causey Pike etc...

Another good days walking in great snow conditions, today we climbed from Braithwaite onto Rowling End before following the ridge to the rocky summit of Causey Pike, from here we continued over Scar Crags to the summit of Sail before descending from Sail Pass to follow the Outerside and Barrow ridge back to Braithwaite. Snow conditions were great, although descending from Sail Pass was a little icy and we had to use crampons for a short section of the descent.

4th February 2009
Grisedale Pike and Hopegill Head
Plenty of snow today for a trip up Grisedale Pike, the climb up over Kinn was pretty much snow free until we reached the steeper slopes above. Te path became icy on the last short climb to the summit. From Grisedale Pike we continued along the ridge to Hopegill Head before descending over Sands Hill to Coledale Hause and the path down to the Force Crag Mine path.

29th January 2009
Fairfield
A grey day today, but mostly dry, we climbed from Grasmere onto the Stone Arthur ridge, following the good ridge to the summit of Fairfield, from pretty early on we were in cloud with very few views. From Fairfield we descened the steep slope to Grisedale Tarn before climbing over the summit of Seat Sandal and following the ridge down to Grasmere

28th January 2009
High Raise
A wonderful day on High Raise today, we climbed from Stonethwaite along the Eagle Crag, Sergeants Crag ridge in bright sunshine with plenty of snow on the ridge before continuing the long climb from Sergeants Crag to High Raise, after a hard slog over deep snow we reached the summit to see a near perfect cloud inversion ahead of us reaching from thre Langdale Valley down to the Yorkshire Dales! We continued the walk over Sergeant Man where we had the most spectacular views of the day with cloud below our feet before descending over Blea Rigg to drop into the cloud and descend by Easdale Tarn to Grasmere.

27th January 2009
A failed attempt of Ullscarf
In miserable weather we climbed from Steel End at the southern end of Thirlmere, we climbed along the Nab Crags ridge, passing the beacon to the cairn on the highest point before it was decided to turn back, thick cloud, persistent rain and deep damp snow were making conditions hard work. We descended to Ullscarf Gill and back down to Steel End via Harrop Tarn.

22nd January 2009
Causey Pike to Sail
A wonderful days walking over the Causey Pike and Sail ridge from Braithwaite, climbing Rowling End to the summit of Causey Pike we continued along the ridge over Scar Crags to Sail before returning to Sail Pass and descending the ridge to Outerside, Stile End and Barrow before descending back to Keswick. There was good snow and sun on the higher ridges so a good day was had by all!

21st January 2009
Walla Crag, Bleaberry Fell and High Seat
A good walk in poor weather over the ridge above Keswick, climbing from Great Wood to the summit of  Walla Crag before continuing to the summit of Bleaberry Fell. There was plenty of snow on the ridge between Bleaberry Fell and High Seat, some drifted to waist deep, but there was also plenty of water hidden under the snow! From High Seat we descended the path to Ashness Bridge before following the Terrace path back to Great Wood

14th January 2009
Clough Head and The Dodds
A good days walk over Clough Head and the Dodds from Threlkeld to Stannah, climbing from the St John's in the Vale road onto the Fishers Wife's Rake route we headed to the top in thick cloud which lifted as we reached the summit of Clough Head. We continued south along the ridge taking in the three tops of Great Dodd, Middle Dodd and Stybarrow Dodd before descending via Sticks Pass to Stannah.

13th January 2009
Low and High Rigg
Todays higher walk was postponed today due to a late start, so instead we opted for the shorter and lower walk over Low and High Rigg.
Starting from Threlkeld we climbed via Tewet Tarn to Low Rig then followed the ridge south over High Rigg to finish at Stannah. Low cloud cleared during the day to give good views of the surrounding fells, especially Blencathra and the wooded fells to the west of Thirlmere.

6th January 2009

Walla Crag and Bleaberry Fell

A good shorter days walk from Keswick today walking along the shore of Derwent Water to Friars Crag before climbing to the summit of Walla Crag and along the ridge to Bleaberry Fell before descending to the Thirlmere Dam and the bus back to Keswick. A good day in wonderful weather, we were back in Keswick before the grey clouds came in and the snow flurries took over.

5th January 2009
Glaramara

A great walk in good wintry conditions, Climbing Glaramara from Stonethwaite in the Borrowdale Valley, we climbed to the summit of Bessyboot before continuing along the ridge over all the lesser peaks to the summit of Glaramara. A few icy sections and wonderful weather conditions made a memorable day on the fells.

4th January 2009
Blencathra
