A 3 peaks challenge with a more relaxed theme spread over three days to climb the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales, these being:
A more relaxed alternative to the 24 Hour Challenge |
|
The fastest time we have found on record for the 3 Peaks Challenge was recorded by Joss Naylor and Frank Davies in 1971, a time of 11 hours 54 minutes, althugh this was before the national speed limit! Joss Naylor MBE and legendary fellrunner, born and bred in Wasdale. Frank Davies hails from Ambleside, and both have distance and endurance running in their blood. Joss is a sheep farmer, still living and working in Wasdale, and at 72 still runs each day. |
We begin our attempt in Scotland, meeting at Fort William Railway Station for the first time at 9am on Saturday morning, departing for the first leg of the challenge, Ben Nevis. Climbing from Glen Nevis to the summit of Ben Nevis, we will be aiming to be up and down Ben Nevis around mid afternoon so that we can begin our journey south to Cumbria. Hot drinks and snacks will be ready for us as we arrive back at the mini bus, we will then depart for our journey to the Lake District. On Sunday morning we will travel to Wasdale or Seathwaite to climb Scafell Pike, using a slightly more interesting route than the standard three peaks challenge up and down. We will aim to be back down again by mid afternoon. We will spend a second night in the Lake District before an early start on the Monday morning, for the drive down to Snowdonia. Mondays walk will begin at Pen Y Pass where we will walk a circular route to the highest point in Wales before returning to Pen Y Pass to complete the 3 peaks for a well earned refreshment stop. After the challenge we will be able to drop clients off at several locations, including accommodation, airports and railway stations (Including Manchester) en route back to the Lakes. Accommodation during the three days is not included in this price, however we will be more than happy to make suggestions for you should you require this, We would recommend staying in Fort William on the Friday night, either Keswick or Cockermouth on the Saturday and Sunday nights and if you would like to stay over in Wales on the Monday night then Llanberis, otherwise we will be able to drop anyone off at stations and Airports en route back to Cumbria. Pick ups can be arranged on the Friday from Cockermouth at 2pm, Carlisle Train Station at 3.30pm and Glasgow Airport at 5.30pm (Arriva have a shuttle bus from near the train stations leaving on regular intervals and taking 15/20 minutes, last check £4.50 pp). Due to the rush hour and logistics Glasgow Central will not be a collection point.
Each participant will be required to bring suitable equipment for their chosen event, please see Kit List tab above. |
