"On a first visit to Patterdale, Place Fell should be an early objective, for no other viewpoint gives such an appreciation of the design of this lovely corner of Lakeland."
A.Wainwright

North of Boardale Hause the north western ridge of High Street rises again to one final summit, Place Fell, a fine summit with spectacular views.

An easy ascent can be found via Boredale Hause from Patterdale, but the northern slopes should not be forgotten, these wonderful wilder slopes descend towards the lakeshore at Sandwick, covered in crags and outcrops, waterfalls flowing down the bracken and heather clad slopes.

A circular walk from Patterdale, climbing to the summit by Boredale Hause before descending north either by The Knight and Birk Fell or Scalehow Beck to the lake shore and following the lakeshore path back to Patterdale is a delightful shorter walk.
