- The Yorkshire 3 Peaks: Private Guiding
The Yorkshire Three Peaks is one of the great mountain challenges, we begin at Horton in Ribblesdale climbing Pen-Y-Ghent before the long walk north to Whernside, returning over Ingleborough.
A very long days walking but well within most walkers capabilities. Anyone retiring from the challenge will be escorted to the next checkpoint and arrangements will be made to collect you upon completion or to transport you back to the start depending on your circumstances. Thus allowing the challenge to continue without holding other walkers back!
This walk is great training for longer events, and it is often used as training for events like the National 3 Peaks Challenge, Kilimangaro or trekking in the Himalayas.
Summits included on this route:
Pen-Y-Ghent694 metres / 2290 feet
Whernside736 metres / 2428 feet
Ingleborough723 metres / 2385 feet
From Horton In Ribblesdale we climb onto the southern shoulder of Pen-Y-Ghent before continuing over the summit of Pen-Y-Ghent and descending to cross the large swathe of moorland between Pen-Y-Ghent and Ribblehead.
After setting off for the second leg of the trip from Ribblehead we cross the moorland below Ribblehead Viaduct to climb the eastern flanks of Whernside, crossing the ridge and descending steeply to the south where a short walk across the valley leads us to the third and final climb, the steep slog onto Ingleborough, the finest of the three peaks with wonderful views over the days route.
All that is left to do from the summit of Ingleborough is the long gentle descent back to Horton, crossing the railway line to the village.
Each participant will be required to bring suitable equipment for their chosen event, please see Kit List tab above.

Yorkshire 3 Peaks Review by Heidi
Overall Experience On 30th April, myself, sister and friend joined 3 others and our guide Neil on the Yorkshire 3 Peaks walk. We had a fantastic day without the pressure of navigating. Neil was professional, friendly and very encouraging when anyone needed extra support. We completed the challenge in 10 hours 25 minutes which was a nice comfortable pace. I would definitely choose the Lake District walker again in the future for a different challenge. Thank you Neil for such a successful and enjoyable experience. (Posted on 11/05/2017)

Yorkshire 3 Peaks Review by Tom
Overall Experience A big thanks to John, Hugh, James and Jeff for helping our group of 30 complete the Yorkshire 3 Peaks on Saturday. Everyone had a great day and really enjoyed it and I know that the last group who completed the the challenge were extremely grateful to you guys, especially Hugh, for helping them get through it, even though there was only limited time left in the day to complete it.
All the members from TMfit Personal Training Studio send their thanks and best regards to you all! (Posted on 03/04/2015)

Posted by John Scadding on Thursday, 12 October 2017
We plan to walk whatever the weather, unless it is dangerous to do so.
Mountain weather can be a little unpredictable, but we do keep an eye on the forecasts leading up to walks, should the forecast mean that the walk is not possible then we will contact you as soon as we have the forecast and offer you the following options:
- A more suitable walk on the same date taking into consideration the weather conditions
- A transfer to the same walk on another date
- A full refund
Question:
Are dogs allowed on this walk?
Answers:
-
Posted by John Scadding on Thursday, 21 September 2017
Yes, dogs are allowed on all our walks.
However we do cross farmland and common land where animals will be grazing, there will be large sections of the walk, if not all, where dogs will be required to be on a lead.
