A Wainwright on Steeple
|
From Overbeck Bridge we will climb the steep southern flank of Yewbarrow climbing either by Great Door onto the summit ridge or taking the easier path up the western slopes to the summit of Yewbarrow. From Yewbarrow we will descend to Dore Head, climbing again to the north west to the wonderful summit of Red Pike and then following the ridge north onto the broad summit of Scoat Fell. From Scoat Fell the summit of Steeple is just a short walk away with it's wonderful views over the Ennerdale Valley and out to the west coast of Cumbria. From Steeple we will retrace our steps back onto Scoat Fell, this time following the wall down to the west, climbing again to the summit of Haycock and then the grassy top of Caw Fell, one of the most remote summits in the Lake District. From Caw Fell we will pick a route below Haycock to drop down by High Pikehow and down to meet the bridleway descending alongside Nether Beck and follow this track down to the roadside by Netherbeck Bridge following the road back the short distance back to Overbeck Bridge and our start point. Each participant will be required to bring suitable equipment for their chosen event, please see Kit List tab above. |
