Tarn Crag
|
"a romantic setting, inurned in bracken clad moraines with a background of craggy fells." |
A.W Wainwright
|
Nestled below the summit of Tarn Crag are the tarns of Easdale and Codale, both beautiful scenic excursions from Grasmere below, but the view from Tarn Crag down onto the tarns is just as spectacular and even more rewarding also giving views down the valley over Grasmere and the surrounding high fells.
A great short walk can be had climbign by Sour Milk Gill to Easdale Tarn before continuing to Codale Tarn and then onto the summit of Tarn Crag before the desccent into Far Easdale and back to Grasmere.
Tarn Crag is also often climbed as a route to and from the higher fells of High Raise and Sergeant Man to the west, a good circuit from Grasmere is to follow the Silver How ridge over Blea Rigg to Sergeant Man and High Raise before descending over Tarn Crag to Easdale and back to Grasmere, The Easdale Round.
