Helm Crag from Grasmere
"This is a splendid little climb; if it has a fault it is that it is too short." |
A Wainwright
|
Helm Crag rises above the Vale of Grasmere to an impressive rocky summit, not the highest mountain in the vicinity, in fact Helm Crag is one of the lower summits above Grasmere it is though the most striking.
The summit doesn't disappoint either, there are wonderful views down over Grasmere and south to Windermere and for the braver walker there is a short scramble up to the true summit of Helm Crag, the 'Howitzer', you can even get one up on Wainwright, the summit of Helm Crag is the only summit in the Lake District that he failed to reach the top of.
