Ill Bell
|
"The graceful cone of Ill Bell is a familiar object to most residents of south Westmorland and those visitors who approach Lakeland by way of Kendal and Windermere." |

Ill Bell lies on the long ridge descending to the south of Thornthwaite Crag, crossing Froswick to the summit of Ill Bell and continuing south over the summit of Yoke to the Garburn Pass. To the west the slope descends steeply to the Troutbeck Valley and to the east down towards Kentmere.
Ill Bell is most commonly traversed on a circuit of the Kentmere Horseshoe, one of the best ridge walks in the Lake District, the fine ridge can also be traversed from the Troutbeck Valley.
The summit of the fell is a wonderful place to stop, a rocky summit topped with several tall well made cairns. The view is also of high quality with a wonderful panorama to the west and one of the best views over Windermere to the south.
