Grid Reference: NY 44738 12577
Height: 780 metres/2559 feet

"Travellers on the road and railway at Shap, looking west to the long undulating skyline of the High Street range, will find their attention focussing on the most prominent feature there, the sharp peak of Kidsty Pike."
A.Wainwright

Kidsty Pike towers above the valley of Riggindale and is the most prominent summit in the skyline when seen from the M6 near Shap. the step southern face is in contrast to the grassy, gentle northern slope where the land descends gently to Randale Beck.

Just off the main High Street ridge Kidsty Pike is a short walk from Rampsgill Head and the High Street Roman Road as it heads north from High Street towards High Raise. The other line of ascent is by the eastern ridge which climbs from the shores of Haweswater and Bowderthwaite Bridge at the foot of the Riggindale Valley.

Riggindale below the summit is the home of the last wild Golden Eagle in England, an staffed RSPB viewpoint runs during the summer months and is a worthwhile stop off point before any ascent of Kidsty Pike from Mardale. Red Deer are also seen regularly in the area, keep an eye out below you as you climb Kidsty Pike as they are often seen far below in the trough of Riggindale.
