Grasmoor

Grid Reference: NY 17481 20351
Height: 852 metres/2759 feet

"On the whole, however, the climb is probably less difficult than the North Wall of the Eiger."
A Wainwright

Grasmoor, the highest of the North Western Fells, is topped by a broad grassy summit plateau with wonderful views across the Lake District, especially across Buttermere to Great Gable and the Scafell range.

There are many good routes climbing to the summit of Grasmoor, from the easy but scenic climb by Gasgale Gill and Coledale Hause or the fine ridge climbing above Buttermere over Whiteless Pike and Wandope to the fine scrambles up the western flank of the mountain above Lanthwaite Green and Crummock Water.

The two main routes up Grasmoor from Lanthwaite Green are the Grasmoor End route and Lorton Gully. The Grasmoor End route is a fine easy but steep scramble with no real difficulties other than being very steep throughout. The Lorton Gully route is a grade 3 scramble, a wonderful route throughout which can be very tricky when damp.
