"Every journey is interesting the first time it is done, and there is much for observant eyes to see." |

Graystones, although far from the highest summit in the Lake District, towers above the Vale of Lorton and is prominent on the skyline from Cockermouth and the towns of West Cumbria.
As a whole the fell is known as Kirk Fell, with only the summit being referred to as Graystones.
The view from the summit across the Vale of Lorton to the Loweswater Fells is good as is the view west over the Solway Firth with Scotland beyond.
Graystones is usually crossed on a circuit of the fells above Aiken Beck, The Whinlatter Fells route, making a good circuit from Scawgill Bridge which can include the summits of Whinlatter Top, Lords Seat, Barf and Broom Fell.
