The wonderful rocky eastern face of the Bannerdale Crags is hidden from view from the higher ground to the west and should be approached from the village of Mungrisdale to the east to be seen at it's best. This eastern face, once heavily mined is now left to nature and is a real surprise and a wonderful shorter ridge walk.
When combined with Bowscale Fell and Souther Fell a delightful shorter, lower level horseshoe walk can be made starting and finishing in the village of Mungrisdale.
Surprisingly the summits of the Coniston Fells are in view from the summit cairn, a view across almost the full length of the Lake District, the view east across the Eden Valley to the north Pennine Fells is also an interesting view.
