"All natives of Caldbeck and district have a deep rooted respect for High Pike: it is a natural background to their lives, it's name is a household word."
A. Wainwright

High Pike towers above the picturesque village of Caldbeck, at the far northern edge of the Lake District, the gentle grassy slopes are well known to anyone living locally, it's slopes have been heavily mined for centuries, and still show the scars of this working.

There is much of interest to be found amongst these mines, especially along Roughten Gill, probably the most mineral rich area in the Lake District.

The gentle grassy northern slopes make a wonderful approach to the summit of High Pike, mine tracks climb the fellside climbing almost to the summit cairn, to the south a ridge leads over Great Lingy Hill to Knott and another ridge east to the summit of Carrock Fell.
