Hard Knott, above the pass of the same name is probably better known for the road basing on it's slopes and the Roman Fort on the Eskdale sloes to the west of the summit, but it should also held in high regard for it's summits, with their outstanding views across the deep valley of Upper Eskdale to the highest tops of the Scafell range.
The two summits, Border End, the rocky summit just above the Hardknott Pass and the true summit of Hard Knott a little further beyond both offer this exceptional view, and it is a wonder why so few people venture to it's summit, especially when it is considered how close it is to the roadside.
Either as a short stroll from the top of the Hardknott Pass or as part of a longer excursion when combined with Harter Fell (of which Hard Knott is really the northern ridge) Hard Knott is a worthwhile summit.
