Harter Fell (Eskdale)

"Not many fells can bee described as beautiful, but the word fits Harter Fell." |

Harter Fell, although not the highest mountain in the Lake District must rank amongst the most special. When viewed from almost any direction it has the perfect mountain shape, it is conical, tapering to a pointed summit. When Harter Fell is underfoot it does not disappoint, the rocky outcrops, the heather covered slopes and the sharp rocky summit all combine to make this a special mountain.
It must only be due to it's remoteness above the Duddon and Eskdale valleys that stop Harter Fell being one of the most popular walks in the Lake District.
From the summit there are exceptional views of both mountains and sea, the pick of these probably being the view north over Upper Eskdale to the Scafell range.
