Grid Reference: NY 14477 10722
Height: 797 metres/2615 feet

"The fell has all the qualities of ruggedness and cragginess characteristic oof the Wasdale mountains, and the approaches to it have charm of surroundings not usually associated with such rough terrain."
A Wainwright

Haycock lies at the centre of the high ground between the valleys of Wasdale and Ennerdale, with ridges leading north, east, south and west from the summit. The rocky summit is a wonderful viewpoint of the Scafell range to the south east and Ennerdale to the north.

Good approaches will be found from both the Wasdale and Ennerdale valleys although walking from Ennerdale will include a long walk in as the nearest car parks are situated at the far end of Ennerdale Water.

The ridge east continues to cross high ground, traversing the summits of Scoat Fell, Pillar and Great Gable before the main ridge turns to the north and descends to Honister Pass.
