Height: 807 metres/2648 feet

"No mountain range in Lakeland is more dramatically impressive than this, no other more spectacularly sculptured, no other more worth climbing and exploring."
A Wainwright

High Stile, the highest point on the high ridge above Buttermere is flanked by two equally impressive mountains in High Crag and Red Pike, the ridge making an impressive barrier on the southern flank of the Buttermere Valley. On this the northern flank steep crags descend from the summits onto deep combs while on the southern flank the ridge descends gently to the Ennerdale Valley.

Below the summit of High Stile lie steep crags, offering much good climbing, to the north east Grey Crag and Eagle Crag drop into Burtness Comb (Sometimes known as Birkness Combe), while to the north west Chapel Crags descend into Bleaberry Combe with Bleaberry Tarn below.

A wonderful ridge route traverses the main ridge, an exceptional days walking from Buttermere.
