Red Pike (Wasdale)
|
"A highlight greatly enjoyed on this splendid expedition is the traverse along the crest of the mile long escarpment of Red Pike, it's top cairn dramatically poised on the brink of a wild cataract of crags forming the eastern face." |

Red Pike, above Mosedale is usually walked as part of the Mosedale Horseshoe on the route either to or from Pillar, although not the highest summit on the route Red Pike is a wonderful peak.
The western slopes descend gently towards Scoat Tarn, but the eastern flank drops away steeply towards Mosedale over rough craggy escarpments which offer much to the scrambler.
To the south the ridge continues over the equally picturesque summit of Yewbarrow while to the north the summit of Scoat Fell is only a short walk away with the rocky Steeple just beyond.
