Latrigg from Keswick

A wonderful short walk this morning climbing Latrigg from Keswick, cold but clear weather this morning with some wonderful views throughout.

We set off from Keswick at 10am and took the track up the wonderfully named Spponey Green Lane, crossing the A66 and taking the track through the woods, traversing the slopes above the Brundholme Lane through Brundholme Woods until the track emerged from the trees above Brundholme Farm.

The views were glorious,at this end of the ridge we had some great views over Clough Head and along the ridge as far as Helvellyn, to the east we could make out the tops on the Pennines around Cross Fell.

We followed the grassy ridge west, climbing up across the fields climbing to the summit of Latrigg. The views were exceptional today, to the south we could see the high tops between Bowfell, Scafell Pike and Great Gable with Pillar and the Buttermere Fells.

West the Coledale Fells made an impressive sight and across the Whinlatter Fells we could see over the Solway to Scotland!

There was a cool breeze on the top today so we didn't hang around for too long on the summit of Latrigg, taking the path down over Mallen Dodd, dropping down over the zig-zags to meet the Spooney Green Lane track as it descends by the recently cleared Birkett Wood.

It didn't take us too long to descend along the very muddy Cumbria Way path back by Ewe How and down to Spooney Green Lane and the bridge crossing the A66.

A great short walk in near perfect weather, one of the first frosty mornings of the winter.
