Welcome to The Lake District Walker
"A simple and enjoyable walk, which ought to be, but isn't a popular amble for Cockermouth folk." |

The wonderful valley of Wythop, along with the two fells that enclose it, Sale Fell and Ling Fell, a circuit of these fells and exploration of the Wythop Valley makes an enjoyable shorter days walking. The two fells offer ever changing views of the surrounding countryside, being on the north western edge of the Lake District the offer a good view over the Solway Coast to Scotland. From the eastern slopes of Sale Fell good views of Skiddaw and Bassenthwate Lake will be seen to best advantage. |
"One very delightful feature of Wythop Wood is the presence of the lovely little roe deer, shyest of creatures. The new plantations are fenced off against them, but they have freedom to roam in the older woodlands." |
