The forested western shores of Thirlmere hide fells, although not the highest in the Lake District have much to offer, the steep gills and crags around Armboth Fell and Raven Crag have many attractions and the ridge along the summits above of High Seat and High Tove, although wet underfoot at times give a wonderful view of the higher fells on either side. |

From the car park at Armboth we will climb alongside Fisher Gill to climb to the summit of Fisher Crag, a wonderful viewpoint over Thirlmere before climbing to the summit of Armboth Fell and then onto the main north south ridge at Middle Crag. The ridge then leads north over the heathery summit of High Tove before climbing to the highest point of the day, High Seat. We will descend East from High Seat to drop down to the path into the woodland below and after a short detour to see Castle Crag Fort we will climb through the trees to the rocky summit of Raven Crag another great viewpoint over Thirlmere below. From Raven Crag we will descend east through the woodland to the shore of Thirlmere following the lakeshore path south back to the Armboth Car Park. Each participant will be required to bring suitable equipment for their chosen event, please see Kit List Tab above. |

Location Info | From Keswick: Follow the A591 south from Keswick, Signposted towards Windermere, and continue until a short section of dual carriageway is passed, take the first right turn after the dual carriageway and follow this road across the dam, turn let at next junction and continue until the Armboth Car Park is seen to the left, this is a pay and display car park (£7 in 2014). From the south lakes: Follow the A591 north from Windermere, Ambleside and Grasmere, crossing Dunmail Raise and descending towards Thirlmere, just before Thirlmere is reached turn left and follow this lane around the western shores of Thirlmere until the Armboth Car Park is seen on the right, we will meet here. This is a pay and display car park (£5 in 2010). Please note that there are several car parks on the shore of Thirlmere, make sure you park in the ARMBOTH Car Park, it will be named. |
