Grasmere may not be the most obvious location to start an ascent of Fairfield from, but it is the closest town or village to the summit of Fairfield.
The western flank of Fairfield has two wonderful lesser summits, both with wonderful views over the Vale of Grasmere and the southern fells, both Stone Arthur and Seat Sandal are relatively lesser walked but both ridges are magnificent.
