Dale Head

Dale Head

Grid Reference: NY 22301 15324
Height: 753 metres/2470 feet

"Dale Head has much in common with Eel Crag in the Grasmoor group. Their summits are focal points of high country, the meeting place of ascending ridges. Both have craggy northern fronts, darkly shadowed, and easy southern approaches. Both enjoy extensive views of great merit, particularly northwards to Skiddaw."
A Wainwright

Dale Head, the highest of the group of fells at the southern end of the Newlands Valley towers above the head of the vale, steep crags protect the summit to the north, but to the south gentle slopes descend to the Honister Pass from where the easiest ascent will be found.

Dale Head is usually traversed as path of the Newlands Horseshoe, a magnificent walk above the Newlands Valley from Robinson to Catbells.

The views from the summit are spectacular, particularly north from the magnificent summit cairn, along the Newlands Valley to Skiddaw where the deep trough of the valley drops away below your feet.
