Bowscale Fell
|
"The finest feature of the fell is the craggy combe and tarn on the north flank, overlooking the Caldew: a scene of utter solitude that can be seen today just as the glacier left it in ages past." |
A.W Wainwright

Bowscale Fell, above the lovely village of Mungrisdale is a lovely secluded summit, well off the beaten track, a short grassy stroll from the summit of The Bannerdale Crags.
A circuit of the fells above Bannerdale makes an enjoyable shorter days ridge walking, but to the north of the summit of Bowscale Fell lies the real jewel of the fell, Bowscale Tarn. Immortalised by William Wordsworth in his 'Feast of Brougham Castle'. The tarn lies in a glacial depression, surrounded by crags and was once a popular attraction of Victorian Tourists, nowadays a peaceful place.
