Brae Fell
|
"Brae Fell, with a name that seems a marriage of Scottish and Cumbrian influences, is a last outpost of Lakeland." |
A.W Wainwright
|
Brae Fell, the northernmost summit of the Lake District, from here grassy slopes descend towards Carlisle and the border country beyond.
To the south a ridge climbs to first Little Sca Fell and then to the summit of Great Sca Fell continuing to Knott, the highest of the Back O'Skiddaw fells.
This grassy northern fell was once the site of heavy industry, Roughten Gill on the eastern flank was part of the huge workings above Fell Side and Caldbeck and the lower slopes near Charleton Gill show signs of excavations.
