"Causey Pike, dominant in the Newlands and Derwentwater scene." |

A great walk above the Newlands Valley taking the the majestic summit of Causey Pike, one of the most recognisable summits in the Lake District. From the summit of Causey Pike this turns into a fine horseshoe walk taking in the summits of Scar Crag ans Outerside before descending back to Stonycroft over Barrow. |

"Deservedly this is a popular climb, the route being quite charming, the views superlative, the finish a bit of real mountaineering, and the summit a place of distinctive character." |

This stunning medium level route takes us on a horseshoe of the Stoneycroft Gill. First we climb out of Stoneycroft to reach the charismatic peak of Causey Pike before continuing along the ridge to Scar Crags, all the while with great views ahead of the North-western fells. From the Sail pass we turn onto the other side of the horseshoe and ascend Outerside, our view now directed towards Keswick and the Northern fells below and beyond. The final descent from Barrow down its long and gradual north ridge to return back to Stoneycroft along the track provide a fantastic easy end to this walk. Each participant will be required to bring suitable equipment for their chosen event, please see Kit List tab above. |
