Although not the highest mountains in the Lake District the two Mell Fells and Gowbarrow Fell offer much to the walker, wonderful views, interesting walking, beautiful woodlands, heather and bracken covered slopes and some of the best waterfalls in Lakeland.

Summits included on this route:

Great Mell Fell	537 metres/1762 feet
Little Mell Fell	505 metres/1657 feet
Gowbarrow Fell	481 metres/1578 feet

"The delightful lower slopes here are beautifully wooded, but low crags and bracken in abundance make them rather difficult of access except where they are traversed by the many pleasant green paths which add so much to Gowbarrow's charms."

A Wainwright

From Dockray we will walk north to climb to the summit of Great Mell Fell, the grassy dome, with a spectacular view over Blencathra to the north.

We will descend the northern slopes, through deciduous woodland and down to Brownrigg Farm from where a walk across the fields will bring us to the lower slopes of Little Mell Fell, a good track leads up the fellside to the grassy summit.

From Little Mell Fell we will descend south to The Hause and meet the path through Swinburn's Park to meet a path climbing to the summit of Gowbarrow Fell.

A short descent north from Gowbarrow Fell brings us to a subsidiary summit with breathtaking views over Ullswater, we will descend the south western shoulder down to Aira Force, the beautiful and popular series of waterfalls.

From Aira Force we will follow the stream upstream and follow the path back to Dockray.
