Armboth Fells

A good day today climbing the Armboth Fells from Thirlmere taking in the summits of Armboth Fell, High Tove, High Seat and Raven Crag, all with a good covering of fresh snow.

We set off from the Armboth car park on the shores of Thirlmere a little after 10am today to take in the four summits of the Armboth Fells.

From the car park we headed up the path by Fisher Gill. There was a little slushy snow on the path but by the time we were up crossing the wall by the top of the trees the snow had cooled and there was a good few inches of fresh powder snow underfoot.

We took a route to the south through the heather aiming for the summit of Armboth Fell, skirting round over easy ground to the south before climbing up to pick out the highest of the lumps on top.

The high tops were in cloud today but there were good views across towards Bell Crags and High Tove.

High Tove was our next target today and we made good progress crossing the hollow behind Armboth Fell to take the direct path to the summit of High Tove.

Following the fence north from High Tove the ground was well frozen today and the usually boggy ground was a breeze, apart from the occasional snow drift and we were soon climbing up the final slope towards the summit of High Seat.

We stopped by the rocky summit of High Seat to have a quick lunch stop before descending west, crossing the stile and dropping down the slope towards the forest below.

We descended to the gate and followed the track north by Castle Crag before climbing up to the summit of Raven Crag, our final summit of the day and a wonderful viewpoint over Thirlmere.

From Raven Crag it's an easy descent down through the trees to the roadside and the car we had left at the car park near the dam.

A good shorter day, not as many good views as the previous few days but we stayed out of the cloud all day.
