The main north, south ridge of Helvellyn stretches from Threlkeld in the north to Ambleside in the south. This magnificent ridge crosses the centre of the Lake District.
This is a long demanding walk which in turn is rewarding in terms of challenging your skills with some serious ascents and super views in all directions out across Lakeland.

From Dunmail Raise we will climb Raise Beck to Grisedale Tarn before ascending to the summit of Dollywaggon Pike and Nethermost Pike, following the ridge from here to the summit of Helvellyn.
The ridge continues North from Helvellyn with wonderful views over the surrounding countryside as we cross White Side and Raise to Sticks Pass where the path again climbs as we cross the Dodds, Stybarrow Dodd, Watson's Dodd and Great Dodd before descending over our final summit of the day Clough Head and dropping down onto the Old Coach Road and our path down to Threlkeld.

Threlkeld is just off the A66 main road between Keswick and Penrith, follow the signs into the village. We meet outside the Horse and Farrier Pub in the centre of the village, please do not park in the pub car parks, plenty of parking can be found a short distance in either direction from the pub.

What happens if the weather is bad?
We plan to walk whatever the weather, unless it is dangerous to do so.
Mountain weather can be a little unpredictable, but we do keep an eye on the forecasts leading up to walks, should the forecast mean that the walk is not possible then we will contact you as soon as we have the forecast and offer you the following options:
Are dogs allowed on this walk?
Yes, dogs are allowed on all our walks.
However we do cross farmland and common land where animals will be grazing, there will be large sections of the walk, if not all, where dogs will be required to be on a lead.
