Seat Sandal

Grid Reference: NY 34399 11424
Height: 736 metres/2759 feet

"Prominent in the Grasmere landscape is the lofty outline of Seat Sandal, soaring gracefully from Dunmail Raise to the flat topped summit and the suddenly falling away in a steep plunge eastwards."
A Wainwright

Seat Sandal, high above Grasmere lies just off the main spine of the Helvellyn to Fairfield ridge, above Grisedale Tarn. Being just off the main path between Fairfield and Dollywaggon Pike it is often omitted by walkers following the ridge. Those who do not venture to the summit of Seat Sandal are missing out on a wonderful view west, but to see the best of Seat Sandal the southern shoulder should be followed, down to Mill Bridge and Grasmere. As this grassy shoulder is descended the views ahead, down over Grasmere, unfold with each step.
