Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the UK is a target of many walkers, this route takes you up the quietest side of the mountaintaking is some of the stunning views above Glen Nevis and the hidden slopes above.

We will meet at the Glen Nevis Visitor Centre, from here we will drive up to the car park at the head of Glen Nevis and follow the path by Steall Falls turning off the main track and heading up the slope to the north into Alt Coire Ghiuthsachan amd then heading up the grassy slopes by Bealach Cumhann.

We continue climbing steadily above Sloc nan Uan until we reach the cairn above the Carn Mor Dearg Arete, with stunning views over Coire Leis. From here we climb up the bouldery final slope to the summit of Ben Nevis, eventually emerging onto the summit plateau a short walk from the trig point.

From the summit of Ben Nevis we shal descend west, following the supply track down, gently at first over the summit plateau before the path gets a bit steeper and descends in wide zig-zags until we're down at Lochan Meall an t-Suidhe (or Half Way Lochan).

From here the path descends the southern flank of Meall an t-Suidhe at a fairly steady gradient to the Ben Nevis Inn and then across the river to the visitor centre.

Directions

Follow the A82 north through Fort William, at the mini-roundabout turn right, Belford Road, signposted to Glen Nevis, follow this road until the Visitor Centre Car Park is reached on the left, we will meet outside the Centre.

Each participant is expected to have suitable personal equipment for their activity this should include the following:

Walking shoes / Boots
Waterproof clothing (Jacket and trousers)
Suitable clothing for walking (no jeans)
Warm tops
Packed lunch
Spare clothing
Water
Hat
Gloves

Please also bring any personal climbing equipment, anything you don't own will be prvided by The Lake District Walker

We do not have a set minimum age for this event, however, you know your child best, therefore please bear in mind this is an open event of varying ages, if you are not confident your child can complete this event then hiring a private guide could be a more suitable option.

As this is an open event all under 18's must be accompanied by an adult.

Yes, dogs are allowed on all our walks.

However we do cross farmland and common land where animals will be grazing, there will be large sections of the walk, if not all, where dogs will be required to be on a lead.

There are sections of this walk across rough ground and boulders and as such this walk may not be suitable for all dogs.
