"The virtues of Helm Crag have not been lauded enough. It gives an exhilarating little climb, a brief essay in real mountaineering, and, in a region where all is beautiful, it makes a notable contribution to the natural charms and attractions of Grasmere."
A Wainwright

One of the most famous and rightly popular fells in Lakeland, Helm Crag does not disappoint those that climb it's modest height.

Recognisable from below for the famous Lion and Lamb rocks on the summit ridge (where there are two separate rocks that give the Lion and Lamb shape to those travelling from different directions) the summit is a wonderful rocky area well worth a short exploration, and the summit rock, the Howitzer, is the only summit that Wainwright never quite reached the summit of, climbing to the summit entails a short scramble, not recommend in damp weather!
