"A grand mountain with grand satellites in support."
A.W Wainwright

Fairfield dominates the skyline to the north of Ambleside, with it's southern ridges circling the Rydal Valley The Fairfield Horseshoe follows these ridges, high above Ambleside and is rightly a popular route.

The Patterdale side of Fairfield shows a vastly different aspect to the mountain, the grassy southern and western slopes are replaced with vast crags and steep rocky valleys, fine ridge walks are also on offer here including Saint Sundays Crag and Hartsop Above How.

The views from the summit of Fairfield are exceptional, most of the high fells of the Lake District are in fine view with a great view over Morecambe Bay and south east over the Yorkshire Dales.
