Heron Pike

Grid Reference: NY 35599 08300
Height: 612 metres/2008 feet

"The smallness of the summit gives depth to the views, which are particularly rich in lakes and tarns. Nearby are he fells of the Fairfield Horseshoe, but the best of the mountain scene is formed by the finely-grouped Coniston and Langdale fells with Scafell Pike overtopping all."
A Wainwright

The southern ridge of Fairfield descends over Great Rigg the summit of Heron Pike before droping down to Rydal over Nab Scar.

Heron Pike is on the popular Fairfield Horseshoe route and offers good views of the surrounding countryside.

On the western slopes of Heron Pike lies Alcock Tarn, a popular short walk from Grasmere below.
