"An interesting walk full of variety."
A.Wainwright

Rest Dodd is the most prominent summit on the north western ridge of High Street, separate northern shoulder descends over the summit of The Nab, separating the valleys of Bannerdale and Rampsgill.

Few fellwalkers climb to the summit of Rest Dodd, the main paths to High Street from Patterdale via either Angle Tarn or Hayeswater cross the lower slopes of the fell.

The northern slopes of Rest Dodd, and The Nab are path of the old Martindale deer forest and it is not uncommon to see red deer here with their young.
